While the finished sections are really pretty, I did learn an important (if obvious)lesson: always check the aspect ratio when making chain maille. (Oops!)
I really wanted to try a new chain maille pattern, so I started a double spiral with what I had on hand: 18 gauge 5/16 inch aluminum jump rings. The same jump rings made a beautiful byzantine necklace, but the inner diameter was too small for a double spiral weave. After the fifth pair of rings, it was got rather difficult to push the second jump ring through. I stopped adding rings when the chain would no longer flex.
On the up side, these will make a lovely base for a pair of autumn or Halloween inspired earrings. It’s all going to depend on what I can find (or make) to finish them.
